Explore the beauty of marbled clay in this beginner-friendly handbuilding workshop at The Clay Department. In this class, you’ll learn the basics of agateware, a technique that creates organic, stone-like patterns by layering and manipulating colored and raw clay.

Using slabs and coils, participants will work with premixed colored clay to create one-of-a-kind handbuilt pieces to take home. We’ll focus on how patterns form through cutting, stretching, and revealing the clay—embracing the slow, satisfying process that makes agateware so unique.

This workshop is open to all levels of experience. Whether you’re new to clay or looking to add a new surface technique to your practice, this class offers a relaxed, hands-on introduction to marbled clay.
