($125 workshop fee + $50 materials fee for clay and torch)

Limited to 6 potters
Want to learn how to make larger pottery without centering massive amounts of clay? Join ceramic artist Andy Rangel for an immersive workshop focused on building large ceramic forms using coiling techniques on the pottery wheel.
This hands-on pottery workshop teaches an efficient approach to creating large vases, vessels, planters, and sculptural forms by combining wheel throwing and coil building. Rather than throwing a large piece from a single mound of clay, participants will learn how to add and blend coils on the wheel to build height, maintain strength, and achieve greater control over larger forms.
During this ceramics workshop, Andy will demonstrate:
• How to build large pottery forms using coils on the wheel
• Techniques for creating taller and wider vessels with less strain on the body
• Strategies for maintaining even wall thickness and structural integrity
• Torch techniques for managing moisture while building
• Methods for preventing cracking, warping, and collapse
• Professional studio workflows for producing large-scale pottery efficiently
Students will work alongside Andy throughout the day and receive personalized instruction and feedback tailored to their experience level.
Each participant will receive 25 pounds of clay and a torch to use during the workshop and take home afterward, including any pieces or practice forms created during class. No firing is included. This workshop is focused on learning large-form pottery techniques and developing skills that can be applied in your own studio practice.
