By putting this partly inside your pot and gently pressing the clay around the edges you can form the lip into a triangle. This will take some practice and requires your piece to have a reasonable amount of plasticity left, so it's better to use with either hand-built pieces or wheel thrown greenware (slightly soft leather hard). For hand built pieces, it's helpful to use darts to shape the bottom into a triangle, then use the shaping cone to shape the lip.

This should work for pots with a diameter between 50mm (2") and 130mm (5") based on the circumference of the outer surfaces of the cone. The distance across the top (whether from top-to-side or tip-to-tip) is about 130mm (5"). This is somewhat counterintuitive since it's a triangle, but it is due to the rounding/softening on the sides of the triangle. The height is 50mm (2").

Products are made with a renewable bioplastic called PLA. It's made from starches instead of fossil fuels, making it more ecologically considerate, but it doesn't tolerate high temperatures or exposure to UV well. To ensure your tools last for a long time, avoid leaving them in a hot car or out in the sun.
